What’s up. Thanks for checking up on me. Right now I’m up in Iowa with my family. My grandpa Stan is going to have surgery later today. He has had a rough week. We would appreciate your thoughts and prayers for Stan.
Peace,
Jake

Hey this is Jake – just wanted to thank everyone who go on here to check on me or say hello. We are leaving Houston tomorrow to go back to Blue Springs. Houston is a great town but I am definitely ready to go home. I did my last radiation today and I’ve had no significant side effects that I can pin point except for some irritation of my esophagus. I will continue taking 2 drugs once I’m back (interferon and MEPACT), which are immune boosters and have very mild side effects if any. So all and all pretty good stuff, no chemo so I’m already feeling better and this should continue the farther I get out of radiation. We will come back to Houston May 10th to see if the radiation was effective then if so we come back every 2 months after that for scans.
So yeah—enough of all that stuff. I also wanted to thank everyone who came out to visit us—my dad and my sis, my great friends Chris Pernice and Brian Davidson, and our longtime family friend Kim Bolin. We had a great time with all of them; it was good to see some familiar faces. We have had some good times down in Texas considering the circumstances. We met some very nice people who were kind enough to take us to the hot spots – we have made some good friends. I would also like to thank my mommy lol, cause I obviously could not have done this without her here. She has taken the tornado of information, appointments, and e-mails she gets every day, and made sure I was getting the best care in the world and that is getting done right.
Peace,
Jake

Hi - this is Jake. We didn’t get the best news here in Houston. Still holding out hope that I qualify for the trial drug. We hope to know tomorrow. Thought we would hear tonight but haven’t got the call yet. Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers. I haven’t given up.
Peace,
Jake

JAKE'S STORY
Thursday, June 18, 2009
Hi this is Jake,
Looks like I will get out of the hospital tonight or tomorrow morning. We were hoping we could go home, but they want to do another CT scan on June 24 – next Wednesday. Ali's on her way down today.
Thanks for checking up on me and my family.
Peace,
Jake

My grandfather Stanley P. Stewart passed away this afternoon at Mercy Hospital. He died from complications after an emergency surgery.
Before he died one of the last things he was able to muster the strength to say was “Merry Christmas”. Even in his pain and struggle to breath he still wanted to comfort us in every way he could, whether it be with a wink of his eye or a humorous gesture. At times when he did not have the strength to talk you could still see the warm, reassuring Stanley P. wit in his eyes that let you know some part of him was taking in his family around him. This same look in his eyes I saw three weeks prior when he as an 81 years old man was up dancing till midnight with my grandma Marge and family.
In ending I would like to say that I respect and hope to live a life as full as all four of my grandparents (Joe, Phyllis & Stan) did and continue to (Marge), and I hope that their strong friendship and bond with each other lasts forever.
Peace,
Jake
